I would like to introduce myself, my name is Jose Niņo; I am a long time National Public Servant, Co-Chair of the Boy Scouts of America Soccer Program, and former president of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC). When I left my fourteen-year position with the Chamber (eight as National President), I began to research programs that I could bring to the USHCC and similar organizations in order to enhance the benefits and services provided for their membership. I identified a need for several products, but remembered that there was a significant need for a value-added healthcare program affordably designed for the small and medium size business. Thus, I began to research different products that might fill this need.
I found that a medical discount program would be a significant solution (this was later discussed by President Bush during the 2004 presidential debates), and began scheduling trips to meet and hold discussions with different discount companies. With so many of these cards out there, I felt it necessary to purchase and try several of them so I could sample their savings and services first hand. This process continued over an 18-month period since it was important to me that if I was to put my seal of approval on any program, it had to be able to meet specific standards and requirements.
Through this personal research it was apparent that the main model used for selling these cards was a multi-level marketing program, which I did not like. Other cards cost too much while still providing the same services and some simply misled the consumer through false advertising and misrepresentations. In addition, many of the cards I looked at stated their program was insurance, but as I learned thru my research that a medical discount program is not an insurance product.
I then met with a group of insurance and marketing experts that have been involved for the last ten-years in the development and marketing of an affordable program that clearly had the consumer's best interest in mind. Through my research and findings with this program, I was fully satisfied with their infrastructure, and felt confident entering into a partnership with their discount service that offered a good price, quality, true discounted savings through a nationwide network of providers, longevity and above all, service to the customer. I now have the trust and confidence to introduce the Care Alternative (English) and Hoy Medico (Spanish) Health Care Programs. Through this newly found relationship, I can deliver a true medical discount program to Groups, Associations, Chamber of Commerce's, Individual Businesses and Foundations that have the need for this health insurance alternative.
